Gas Shortage of 2008 - A Photoblog - 9/28/2008

Even before Hurricane Ike hit gas prices spiked and shortages began in Nashville and the immediately surrounding counties.  After a week, Bill was out of gas and I was at half a tank.  We finally had to go sit in a gas line.  The night before the news had featured interviews of people who had been in line for 5.5 hours waiting on gas, motorists passing through who had had no clue, and justifiably angry people who just wanted to fill up.  I took these pictures to remember:

There are two gas stations near where I live that got gas last night. Both lines were the same. This is the other one.

Lines! Only two of their four pumps working across the street.

More of the other station. The other station wasn't quite as organized. People kept trying to cheat the system by making a right on red and coming in that way.

More of the other station.

5 people in the back seat, and the 9 year old has a Starbucks. THAT'S responsible parenting right there! :)

At our station there were two lanes: one coming in one side of the station from a side street, one feeding in from OHB. Both converging on either side of the lone pump at this station that had gas.

The lane curving to the left was feeding the lane turning in from the side street. The lane going straight was merging into the lane feeding the line for OHB.

The lane feeding our station from OHB. I was standing beside my car taking this one.

The white Jeep Cherokee ran out of gas when he was second to next to get gas. He had to be pushed the rest of the way to the pump.

Pushing the Jeep.

People were kind enough to give the pumps plenty of space so those that had to turn around and back in to pump on the correct side could.

The station we filled up at 20 minutes afterward. Looks like we did so at JUST the right time.
