This morning I was driving on the main highway that leads into town in the left hand lane. I was travelling at *ahem* five miles over the posted rate of speed. I was passing the person in the right hand lane, as the law allows. In my rear view mirror I look up and realize that there is a vehicle coming up VERY fast behind the vehicle I am passing and then he does this NASCAR switch to my lane, thinking I would then let him by. When it became clear I was not going to move fast enough for him (an older guy with graying hair and a cell phone on his ear) he proceeded to get so close to my bumper that I could lo longer see anything but his front windshield. I slowed down. Dramatically. He slammed on his brakes.
I realized it was 7:50 and he was probably late to work, but guess what, that meant the rest of us were too. I drove along at the proper rate of speed for the rest of the drive in. That meant he was stuck behind me and that other vehicle for about seven miles. He was doing the NASCAR slide the whole way. I just kinda shook my head. It was fruitless. And all he was doing was pumping up his own blood pressure.
I do have to admit... It was kinda fun.
